OVERVIEW Invision Power Board (IPB) 2.1 is the latest development. Latest Releases 2.0.x (obsolete) - 2.0.4: 2.1.x (stable) - 2.1.5: Ma2.1.x (stable) - 2.1. Invision Power Services is very pleased to announce a special, customer only technology preview of Invision Power Board v2.1.
Up until 2005, IPS offered security fixes, but with the advent of version 2.1, these have ceased. Regardless of the lack of help, many users still ulteiize the older version, even though it has known security holes. Version 1.3 Version 1.3 was the last free version, and IPS still permits it to be used, but does not offer a download or support. The viewing styles were also redone, and a number of various other changes were made including the use of Ajax in many new features. The administrator's control panel was completely redesigned, and the posting options were renovated to feature viewable text properties (Rich Text Editor), such as bold, italics, underline, etc. IPB 2.1 was released on September 13, 2005. On July 1, 2005, IPS changed the demo timeframe from 15 days to 5 days, and a few months later, it was again reduced to 24 hours.
It was replaced with a free demo, thus ending its claims that IPB will be free forever. A downloadable trial version of Invision Power Board 2.0.0, 2.0.2, and 2.0.3 versions were made available, but were discontinued on September 27, 2004.

Although the software developers originally maintained that it would remain a free package, in 2004 IPB ended its free releases for non-commercial uses. Their first product was IPB, another forum package, which quickly gathered a community of former Ikonboard users. History Invision Power Services (IPS) was begun by Matt Mecham and Charles Warner in 2002, after the pair left Jarvis Entertainment Group (who produced Ikonboard). In addition, many groups offer the download or design of free and paid-for skins.

Upgrade scripts MAY be provided to upgrade you to future BETA releases although this isn't guaranteed as it depends on further changes to the code's core.Ĭustomers can download directly from their download center (make sure you log in first!).While Invision Power Board is a commercially sold product, there is a large modding community and many of these modifications are free.

You can then click on "Rebuild All" to rebuild your skin caches. It was the first version to undergo a security audit by a company named Gulftech to find any security holes missed by the IPS development team as part of their ongoing effort to keep IPB as secure as possible. Do this via: ACP -> Look & Feel -> Skin Tools: Rebuild Master Skin Set. Invision Power Board 2.2 included many improvements, new features, and security fixes. Once the files are uploaded, you will need to rebuild your master skin set. However, there are no SQL changes so upgrading is just a case of uploading all the source files EXCEPT conf_global.php. There is no direct upgrade path from IPB 2.1.0 BETA 2 as the upgrade system has not been finished. There is NO way to upgrade your IPB 2.0.x board to IPB 2.1.0 so please don't try as data loss WILL occur! * Components (Installation, ACP permission restrictions) * Skinning tools (search and replace, etc) Some areas of IPB are yet to be completed, these include: We are also NOT offering installation service on this release. This release has been made available to help identify and fix bugs in the software and is not of release quality in any way and should NOT be used in a production environment in any instance.
